Install

Please follow these three steps to register for the Community Edition of the Water IDE.
After you have registered, you will be taken to the page where you can download the software.

Step 1

Machine and Platform Requirements

Clear Methods Steam XML™ is intended for use on any system supporting the Java™ 2 Platform. This includes Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, SGI, and Solaris.

A 400MHz or faster processor with a minimum of 128 megabytes of physical RAM is recommended for development. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping, which can have a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance. The Steam IDE requires a monitor with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 768.

Step 2

Download Java

You will need version Java 1.5 or later installed on your system. To check to see if Java is already installed on your computer, click here to run the sample Notepad application. If you get a dialog box asking whether you want to save the file, then Java is not installed.

If you do not have Java installed, you need to get it from the Sun Web site by clicking on the link below. It will open a new window and you can follow the download instructions for Java. After Java is installed, close that window to return to this page.

Get Java from Sun's Web site

To verify that Java has been successfully installed, Click on the link below. If it shows a "Notepad" application, then Java is installed correctly. After verifying that it works, close the Notepad application to continue with the installation.

You may also test your Java™ Virtual Machine by visiting this test page. It checks to see if the JVM™ is working on your computer. This test applet, written with Java™ technology, displays information about your operating system, the JVM and the Java™ 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (JRE) version. After verifying that is Java working on your system, close the test page and continue with the Steam XML installation.
